The Pietá, meaning pity or compassion, is a subject in Christian art depicting the Blessed Virgin Mary cradling the mortal body of Jesus Christ after his descent from the cross. It is most often found in sculpture. The Pietà is a specific form of the Lamentation of Christ in which Jesus is mourned by the Virgin Mary alone.
After seeing Michelangelo's original Pieta at the Vatican, I wish to convey my sadness about the current situation in the Philippines. The daily hardships faced by Filipinos are attributed to the combined effects of politicians' bad practices, corruption, and natural disasters. However, optimism for a brighter future in the Philippines remains, and it must begin with each individual. God bless the Philippines! Mabuhay!
